Advancing Spinal Cord Research and Surgical Treatments

Welcome to the Spine Center of New Jersey “a unique organization of medical, research and education professionals that combines a leading neurosurgery practice, a dedicated team of scientific investigators and a prominent teaching facility“ all connected by a commitment to excellence in spine and spinal cord care.

Staffed by Drs. Robert F. Heary and Ira M. Goldstein, the Spine Center provides comprehensive medical and surgical treatments for spine disorders and spinal cord injury. The practice is one of the most respected in the region and benefits from the availability of state-of-the-art technologies and support of a large health sciences university.

The Reynolds Family Spine Laboratory, the research facility of the Spine Center, performs cutting-edge investigations tackling complex and challenging issues directly relevant to individuals with chronic and acute spinal cord injury and with diseases leading to paralysis. Co-directors Robert F. Heary, MD and Stella Elkabes, PhD combine their expertise in medical and basic science to promote discovery of therapies that can be translated from the bench to the bedside and to encourage interdisciplinary collaborations that can facilitate the implementation of clinical interventions.

The Spine Center of New Jersey is an important component of a well-established academic institution. Spine Center faculty devote their time to educating future clinicians and scientists and their excellence in teaching is reflected in the enthusiasm and passion of our Neurosurgery residents and fellows, graduate and medical students, and post-doctoral trainees.
